  1. 9 cups sourdough or crusty italian bread cut into 1/2 inch cubes

  2. 672 g ground pork sausage

  3. 1/2 cup butter or margarine

  4. 3 cups chopped onion

  5. 2 cups chopped celery

  6. 2 tbsp. minced fresh garlic

  7. 4 1/2 cups peeled, cubed Golden Delicious apples

  8. 1 1/2 cips chopped toasted pecans

  9. 1/4 cup chopped fresh sage or 1 1/2 tbsp. dried

  10. 1 tbsp. dried thyme

  11. 1 1/4 tsp. salt

  12. 1 1/4 tsp. pepper

  13. 1 1/2 cups chicken broth

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread bread cubes on 2 baking sheets and bake 16 to 18 minutes, stirring once, until lightly toasted. Pour into a large bowl. Cook sausage in a large skillet over medium- high heat, breaking up chunks, until browned. Drain fat. Add sausage to bread in bowl. Wipe out skillet. Add butter and melt. Add onions, celery and garlic and cook about 8 minutes until almost tender. Add apples and cook about 5 minutes until apples are just tender. Add to bread along with pecans, sage, thyme, salt and pepper. Stir well to mix. Slowly add broth and toss stuffing until moistened.
