  1. 1 cup vegetable oil

  2. 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

  3. 3 large eggs

  4. 1 cup buttermilk

  5. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  6. 1 teaspoon ground allspice

  7. 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  8. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  9. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  10. 1 teaspoon salt

  11. 2 cups all-purpose flour

  12. 1 cup cooked mashed prunes

  13. 1 cup chopped nuts The Sauce:

  14. 1 cup granulated sugar

  15. 1/2 cup buttermilk

  16. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  17. 1 tablespoon light corn syrup or honey

  18. 1/2 cup butter

  1. Preheat oven to 350 °F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan. Set aside. Mix all ingredients and blend well. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until cake springs back when pressed in the center. Remove from oven. Pour sauce over top of hot cake immediately. For The Sauce: Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan. Cook until butter is melted. Boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour over cake as soon as it comes out of the oven.
