  1. Starter:

  2. 1/2 cup flour (regular or unbleached)

  4. 1/2 cup milk

  1. Mix all ingredients together and put in a 1 gallon ziplock freezer bag, making sure the zipper is clean and seals well. Follow the steps below. Do not refigerate; let sit at room temperature in a place where it can rise.

  2. Day 1: Make starter and put in sealed bag.

  3. Day 2: Squish bag to mix thoroughly.*

  4. Day 3: Squish bag to mix thoroughly.

  5. Day 4: Squish bag to mix thoroughly.

  6. Day 5: Squish bag to mix thoroughly.

  7. Day 6: Add 2 c. flour, 1 c. sugar, and 1 c. milk. Squish bag to mix thoroughly.

  8. Day 7: Squish bag and let air out - be careful that the zipper is clean before resealing.

  9. Day 8: Squish bag and let air out.

  10. Day 9: Squish bag and let air out.

  11. Day 10: Make Friendship Bread (see following recipe); do not disturb bag until making bread.

  12. Starter can be used to make approximately 4 cups of new starter. On Day 10, you can make four batches of Friendship Bread or make one batch of bread and give three 1-cup starters to friends. Alternatively, you can make 3 batches of Friendhip Bread and save one cup starter for yourself.

  13. *Starting with Day 2, it may be necessary to let excess air out of the bag on or more times per day; be careful not to disturb starter while doing so.

  14. Friendship Bread Cinnamon Sugar 1 cup oil 3 large eggs ½ cup milk 1 tsp vanilla 2 cups flour 1 cup sugar 1½ tsp. baking powder ½ tsp. salt ½ tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. cinnamon 1 large box of instant vanilla pudding 1 cup baking raising (optional)

  15. cup flour 1 cup sugar 1 cup milk Preheat over to 325 degrees. In a small bowl, make a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Prepare two loaf pans, by greasing the pans and coating with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. reserve some for the topping. Set aside.

  16. Combine oil, eggs, ½ cup milk, vanilla in a large bowl, mixing well. Add 2 c. flour, 1 c. sugar, baking powder, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, pudding, and raisins to egg mixture; do not mix.

  17. In separate medium bowl mix together 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar. Gradually add 1 cup milk, keeping mixture smooth. Add Amish Friendship Bread Starter from plastic bag, mixing gently. Add spproximately 1 cup of the resulting mixture into the egg/flour/raisin mixture. Mix egg/flour/raisin/starter mixure together well.

  18. Pour batter into prepared pans and sprinkle with reserved cinnamon-sugar mixture on top. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Cool. This bread freezes well.

  19. Of the remaining new starte mixture, put 1 cup each into three plastic bags and share with friends.
