  1. : Preheat oven to 325 F. Toss turnips and butter in 13 x 9 x 2-inch glass baking dish. Sprinkle turnips with salt and pepper. Cover dish with foil. Bake until tender, about 1 hour. Remove from oven and mash coarsely. Stir in nutmeg. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
