  1. 2 slices bacon -

  2. 4 shallots - thinly sliced -

  3. 2 pounds brussels sprouts - trimmed and halved -

  4. 1 cup water -

  5. 1/2 teaspoon salt , divided -

  6. 1/4 teaspoon black pepper -

  7. 1/4 cup bread crumbs -

  8. 3 tablespoons butter

  1. Preheat broiler. In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon from pan, reserving drippings; crumble. In same skillet, increase heat to medium-high and saute shallots in the bacon drippings. Cook until tender, approximately 2 minutes. Add Brussels sprouts and water; bring to a boil. Cover and cook until Brussels sprouts are almost tender, about 6 minutes. Uncover and remove from heat. Sprinkle with salt and pepper; toss to combine. Place mixture in a greased baking dish. In the skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add breadcrumbs; saute until toasted, stirring frequently. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over Brussels sprouts. Broil 3 minutes or until golden and thoroughly heated.
