  1. GOOSEBERRY CHUTNEY

  2. 1 cup packed brown sugar

  3. 1 cup sugar

  4. 1 cup cider vinegar

  5. 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  6. 1 cinnamon stick (3 inches)

  7. 4 whole cloves

  8. 4 whole allspice

  9. 4 cups canned, fresh or frozen gooseberries

  10. In a saucepan, combine sugars, vinegar and nutmeg. Place the

  11. cinnamon, cloves and allspice in a cheesecloth bag; place in

  12. saucepan. Simmer until sugar is dissolved. Add gooseberries; simmer,

  13. uncovered, for 20-30 minutes or until mixture is very thick, stirring

  14. occasionally. Remove and discard spice bag. Serve the chutney with

  15. pork or ham. Store in the refrigerator. Makes 2 1/4 cs.
