  1. 1/4 c. lukewarm water

  2. 1 c. milk

  3. 1/4 c. melted butter

  4. 3/4 c. raisins

  5. 4 c. flour

  6. about 1/2 c. sugar

  7. 2 tsp. ground cardamon

  8. 1 tsp. salt

  9. 1 beaten egg

  10. 1/4 c. citron or mixed fruit

  1. Crumble yeast; add lukewarm water. Scald milk and add butter, sugar and salt. Allow to cool to lukewarm. Add enough flour to make a thick batter; then add beaten egg, raisins, citron and yeast. Add enough flour to make a soft dough that can be kneaded.

  2. Place in a greased bowl; allow to rise. Punch down and let rise again. Divide in two, and form each into a long loaf. Let rise until double in bulk. Bake on a cookie sheet for 30-35 minutes (or in loaf pans) in 350 degree oven. Either brush with beaten egg before baking, or frost with a confectioners’ sugar glaze after baking.
