  2. 1/2 cup butter (no substitutes!), softened

  3. 1/2 cup ground almonds

  4. 1/4 cup sugar

  5. 1 tsp vanilla extract

  6. 1 cup all-purpose flour

  7. 2 Tbsp cornstarch

  8. 2 squares (1 oz each) semisweet chocolate

  9. 1/2 tsp shortening

  10. 1" balls; shape into crescents and place on greased baking sheets. Bake at

  11. 375 F for 8-10 min. or until lightly browned. Cool completely on wire racks. Melt chocolate and shortening in a microwave or double-boiler; stir until smooth. Dip one end of each crescent into chocolate; cool on waxed paper. Refrigerate for about 30 min. to firm the chocolate. Yield: about 2 1/2 dozen
