  1. 2 oz. German chocolate

  2. 2 tbsp. butter

  3. 1/3 c. flour

  4. 3/4 c. sugar

  5. 1/4 tsp. salt

  6. 2 1/2 c. milk, scalded

  7. 3 eggs, separated

  8. 3/4 tsp. vanilla

  9. 1 baked

  10. 8 pie shell

  1. Melt chocolate and butter over low heat or hot water in top of double boiler. Mix flour, sugar and salt; stir into chocolate mixture slowly. Add milk stirring constantly. Cook until mixture is fully thickened, about 15 minutes.

  2. Beat egg yolks well, stir in a little of chocolate mix. Then pour into rest of hot mixture and cook about 2 minutes longer, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Cool partially and stir in vanilla. Pour into pie shell.

  3. Beat egg whites until stiff, then slowly beat in 1/3 cup sugar. Swirl meringue over pie filling. Sprinkle with nuts or coconut.
