  5. 1 c Sugar

  6. 1 c Molasses

  7. 1/2 c Butter or other shortening

  8. 3 c Flour

  9. 1 c Milk, sour

  10. 2 t Ginger

  11. 2 t Cinnamon

  12. 1 t Cloves

  13. 1/4 t Nutmeg

  14. 2 ea Egg, well beaten

  15. 1 t Soda

  16. 1 x *dissolved in:

  17. 1/4 c Water, boiling

  18. Cream the shortening and sugar, aadd the eggs and molasses, and mix

  19. well. Sift the flour and spices, and add alternately with the milk to

  20. the first mixture. Stir in the dissolved soda. Pour into well-greased

  21. 350-F

  22. 30 minutes.
