  1. Preheat oven to 375 F.

  2. 2 cups mashed sweet potatoes (1 lb., 7 oz. can) -- I use fresh sweet potatoes

  3. 1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter or margarine

  4. 1/2 cup sugar

  5. 2 eggs

  6. 1 cup evaporated milk

  7. 1/4 tsp. nutmeg

  8. 1/4 tsp. cinnamon

  9. 1/8 tsp. cloves

  10. 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar

  11. 1/3 cup finely chopped pecans

  12. 2 Tbs. all-purpose flour

  13. 2 Tbs. butter or margarine, softened to room temperature

  14. 1. Blend sweet potatoes, butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each. Add milk, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. Mix thoroughly and spoon mixture into a lightly greased baking dish.

  15. 2. To make topping: using a fork, mix brown sugar and remaining ingredients into a crumbly mixture, then sprinkle it over the sweet potatoes. Bake for 35 - 45 minutes.

  16. NOTE: For Thanksgiving, I'll assemble this in the morning, then bake it right after the turkey comes out of the oven.
