  1. 2 cup(s) dry red wine , such as Chianti 5 cup(s) sugar

  2. 2 strip(s) (3 inches by 1 inch each) orange peel

  3. 1 stick(s) (3-inches long) cinnamon

  4. 1 1/2 pound(s) dark sweet cherries

  1. In covered 4-quart saucepan, heat wine, sugar, orange peel, and cinnamon to boiling over medium-high heat. Boil 5 minutes. Cool to room temperature.

  2. Place cherries in bowl or storage container with tight-fitting lid. Pour wine mixture over cherries. Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours or up to 2 days.

  3. To serve, ladle cherries with wine into cups or dessert bowls. After eating cherries, you can drink the wine!
