  1. 16 ounces dried split peas

  2. 2 cups diced fully cooked lean ham

  3. 1 cup diced carrots

  4. 1 medium onion, chopped

  5. 2 garlic cloves, minced

  6. 2 bay leaves

  7. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  8. 1/2 teaspoon pepper

  9. 5 cups boiling water

  10. 1 cup hot milk

  1. In a slow cooker, layer the first nine ingredients in order listed (do not stir). Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours or until vegetables are tender. Stir in milk. Discard bay leaves before serving.
