  1. 1/4 c. warm water (not hot 110-115 degrees)

  2. 1 pkg active dry yeast

  3. 3/4 c. lukewarm milk

  4. 1/2 c. sugar

  5. 1/2 tsp. salt

  6. 1/2 tsp. powdered cardamon

  7. 1 egg

  8. 2 Tbs. shortening

  9. 1 c. candied fruit

  10. 1 c. raisin s Half of

  11. 3 1/2 c. sifted Gold Medal Flour

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add all ingredients except half the flour. Mix with a spoon until smooth. Add rest of flour until easy to handle by hand. Turn onto lightly floured board; knead until smooth and elastic. Round up in greased bowl; cover and let rise until double in size about 1½ hours. Could take longer. Punch down and let rise again about another 45 minutes. Shape into round loaf; place in greased 8 or 9 inch round pan. Cover and let rise (45 min.). Brush with egg yolk glaze. Bake until brown.

  2. degrees for 30-40 minutes. Makes 1 loaf.
