  5. 1 c Short-grain rice

  6. 1/2 ts Fresh ginger, finely minced

  7. 1/2 ts Peanut or Canola oil

  8. 2 c Water

  9. 1/2 ts Salt

  10. Rinse rice in strainer and drain.

  11. In a saucepan, heat the oil and fry the ginger over

  12. medium heat until fragrant, 1-2 minutes. Stir in the

  13. rice. Add the water and salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce

  14. heat to a simmer. Cook covered until water is

  15. absorbed, about 12-15 minutes. Stir once and allow to

  16. stand until ready to serve. Note: Plain white or brown

  17. rice, cooked without the oil, may be substituted. --
