  1. 2 apples (preferably russet or Opalescent)

  2. 1 cup low-fat granola mixture

  3. 1/4 cup walnut pieces

  4. 2 tablespoons sugar

  5. 1/4 cup orange juice

  6. 4 tablespoons sour cream or whipped cream for garnish

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. Cut the apples in half, core them, and cut them into 1-inch pieces. (You should have about 4 cups.)

  3. Thoroughly mix the apple cubes with the granola, walnuts, sugar, and orange juice in a bowl, and press the mixture lightly into a 6-cup gratin dish. Bake for 1 hour, until the apples are soft and the dessert is nicely browned on top.

  4. Serve lukewarm or at room temperature, topping each serving with 1 tablespoon of sour cream or whipped cream, if desired.
