  1. 1 cup butter or margarine, softened

  2. 1/2 cup sugar

  3. 1 large egg

  4. 1 teaspoon lemon extract

  5. 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  6. 1-1//2 teaspoons baking powder

  7. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  8. 1 tablespoon whipping cream or half-and-half

  9. Red and green decorator sugar crystals


  11. Beat butter at medium speed of an electric mixer until creamy; gradually add 1/2 cup sugar, beating well. Add egg, beating well. Stir in lemon extract.

  12. 12-inch rolls; wrap in wax paper, and chill at least

  13. 6 hours.

  14. Unwrap rolls, and cut into 1/4-inch slices; place on lightly greased cookie sheets. Brush tops of cookies with cream, and sprinkle evenly with sugar crystals, if desired.

  15. 400 F (205 C) for 8 minutes. Cool on wire racks.

  16. Note: Dough may be frozen by wrapping securely and freezing up to 1 month. Remove from freezer; slice dough, and bake as directed.
