  1. 2 tablespoons butter

  2. 1/2 pound asparagus, cut into 1-inch pieces

  3. 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  4. 2 cups milk

  5. 1 1/2 cups vegetable broth

  6. 1/2 cup water

  7. 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  8. 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme

  9. 1/4 teaspoon dried sage salt to taste

  1. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in asparagus and cook 5 minutes. Sprinkle flour over asparagus, and toss to coat. Mix milk, vegetable broth and water into saucepan. Stir in Parmesan cheese, thyme, sage and salt. Cook 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve warm.
