  5. 1 c Butter or margarine;

  7. 2 c Sugar

  8. 3 1/4 c All-purpose flour

  9. 1 tb Baking powder

  10. 3/4 ts Salt

  11. 1 c Milk

  12. 1 ts Vanilla extract

  13. 8 Egg whites; stiffly beaten

  14. Lane cake filling--see recip

  16. 1/2 Seven-minute frosting

  20. Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium

  21. speed of an electric mixer. Combine flour, baking powder,

  22. and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk,

  23. beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix after each addition. Stir in vanilla. Fold in egg whites. Pour

  24. 3 greased and floured 9-inch round cakepans.

  25. 325 degrees for 25 minutes or until a wooden pick

  26. inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10

  27. minutes; remove from pans, and let cool completely on wire

  28. racks. Spread Lane Cake Filling between layers and on top

  29. of cake; spread Seven-Minute Frosting on sides. Garnish

  30. with pecan halves, if desired. Yield: one 3-layer cake. --
