  1. 1 c. milk

  2. 1 c. mashed potatoes

  3. 2/3 c. shortening

  4. 2/3 c. sugar

  5. 1 tsp. salt

  6. 1 cake yeast

  7. 1/2 c. lukewarm water

  8. 2 eggs

  9. 6 c. flour

  10. 1/2 c. melted butter

  1. Scald milk. Add potatoes, shortening, sugar and salt. Cool to lukewarm. Soften yeast in lukewarm water and add to lukewarm milk mixture. Add eggs and beat well. Add 1 1/2 cups flour and beat well. Add remaining flour to make a workable dough. Turn on a flour board and knead until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl, grease top of dough. Cover and let rise until double. Turn out on floured surface and roll to 1/2 inch thick. Cut 2 inch squares and drop in melted butter. Place squares in 2/9 inch loaf pans, pushing up close together. Let rise again. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Or make buns out of part of it and bake at a higher temperature for much shorter time. to eat the loaves, pull off pieces of the loaf “like a monkey”.
