  1. Cookie Mix-in-a-Jar

  2. 1 1/3 cup (160 mL) all-purpose flour

  3. 1/2 tsp. (5 mL) baking soda

  4. 1/4 tsp. (1 mL) salt

  5. 1/2 cup (125 mL) old-fashioned oats

  6. 1/3 cup (80 mL) sugar

  7. 1/3 cup (80 mL) brown sugar

  8. 1/2 cup (125 mL) dried cranberries

  9. 1 cup (250 mL) chocolate chips

  10. 1/2 cup (125 mL) chopped walnuts or pecans

  11. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda and salt. Pour into the bottom of a 1 L glass jar and shake to settle it. Layer the rest of the ingredients on top in the order given. 

  12. 1/2 cup softened butter and a large egg, mixing just until blended. Drop by the spoonful onto a greased or parchment lined baking sheet and bake at

  13. 12-14 minutes, or until golden around the edges but still soft in the middle. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen cookies.

  14. Variation - Spiced Fruit & Nut Oatmeal Cookies: swap chopped dried apricots for the toffee bits and raisins for the chocolate chips; add a teaspoon of cinnamon along with the oats.
