  7. 2/3 cup buttermilk -

  8. 1 egg, beaten -

  9. 1/4 cup chopped onion Vegetable oil

  1. Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, vanilla, baking soda, and salt. Stir in buttermilk, egg, and onion. Heat oil in fryer to 375 degrees F. Drop batter by tablespoons a few at a time until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
