  1. 2/3 cups all purpose flour

  2. 1/2 cup whole wheat flour

  3. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  4. 1/4 teaspoon salt

  5. 1/2 cups Granny Smith apple s, finely-chopped, leave skin on (about 2 large)

  6. 1 egg

  7. 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  8. 1/4 cup applesauce

  9. 1/4 cup brown sugar

  10. 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

  11. 1 tablespoon whole wheat flour

  12. 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  13. 1 tablespoon butter

  14. 1 cup chopped pecan s

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.

  2. Lightly coat a 9x1 1/2-inch baking pan with cokking spray; set aside.

  3. In a small bowl combine the 2/3 cup all-purpose flour, the 1/2 cup whole wheat flour, the baking soda, the 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and the salt; set aside.

  4. In a medium bowl toss together the apple and egg. Stir in the 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup nuts, and the applesauce.

  5. Add flour mixture to apples, stir untill just combined. Pour batter into prepared pan.

  6. For topping, stir together the brown sugar, the 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, the 1 tablespoon whole wheat flour, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.

  7. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in 1/2 cup nuts. Sprinkle over batter in pan.

  8. Bake in oven for 30 - 35 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan - serve warm.
