  1. 16 tablespoons 240ml Butter or margarine

  2. 1/2 cup 99g / 3 1/2oz Shortening

  3. 3 cups 594g / 20oz Sugar

  4. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Baking powder

  5. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Cloves

  6. 1 teaspoon 5ml Vanilla

  7. 6 teaspoons 30ml Eggs (large)

  8. 3 cups 187g / 6.6oz Flour - unsifted

  9. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Salt

  10. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Allspice

  11. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Nutmeg

  12. 1 cup 237ml Apple cider

  13. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Cinnamon Caramel Glaze

  14. 1/2 cup 99g / 3 1/2oz Sugar

  15. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Soda

  16. 1/4 cup 49g / 1.7oz Margarine

  17. 1/4 cup 59ml Buttermilk

  18. 1/2 tablespoon 7 1/2ml Corn syrup

  19. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Vanilla

  1. Recipe Instructions Soften margarine and shortening. Add sugar gradually, beating for 1- minutes. Add egg one at a time, beating 1 1/2 minutes after each egg. Sift together all the dry ingredients and add alternately with the cider and vanilla to the shortening mixture. Blend well and bake in a 10" tube pan at 235F for 1 1/2 hours. CARAMEL GLAZE: Bring ingredients to a rolling boil over low heat and boil for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
