  1. 8 1/2 oz white filleted fish chunks (haddock or cod)

  3. 3/4 tsp turmeric powder

  4. 2 1/2 tsp cooking oil

  5. 2 peeled and crushed garlic cloves

  6. 1 peeled and pounded onion

  7. 1/2 in peeled and pounded ginger

  8. 1/4 tsp chili powder

  9. 5 chopped tomatoes

  10. 1 tbsp soy sauce

  11. 1/4 tsp shrimp paste

  12. 2 pt cold water

  13. 6 springs coriander leaves

  14. 2 tbsp dried tamarind pulp

  15. 5 tbsp hot water

  16. 12 oz peeled and thinly sliced white radish

  1. Preparation (instructions) Rub fish with salt and turmeric. Set aside. Heat oil in a saucepan and saute garlic, onion, ginger and chili powder. Mix well for 3 minutes and stir in tomatoes, soy sauce, shrimp paste, cold water and coriander leaves. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer gently for 12 minutes. Meanwhile, place tamarind pulp in a small bowl of hot water and compress to extract the flavor. Strain tamarind liquid into the saucepan and add in radish. Simmer for another 12-15 minutes. Serve hot.
