  5. 12 ladyfingers split

  6. 3 tablespoons raspberry jam

  7. 4 tablespoons dry sherry or rum

  8. 2 eggs yolks

  9. 3 tablespoons sugar

  10. 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  11. salt 1 strip of lemon zest

  12. 1 1/2 cups milk

  13. 14 strawberries

  14. 8 sliced and 6 -- left whole

  15. 2 cups heavy or whipping -- cream or milk

  16. vanilla extr small piece of frozen bitterweet -- chocolate to decorat

  17. Zuppa inglese is one of italy's most popular deserts.

  18. It is best mak a day ahead.

  19. Select a wide glass bowl. Spread the insides of the ladyfingers with jam and arrange then in the bowl.

  20. Sprinkle with the sherry or rum and set aside.

  21. In a small pan off the heat, beat the yolks with 2 tablespoons of sugar.Mix in

  22. the cornstarch. Stir in the salt, lemon zest and milk.

  23. Place over very low heat and stir constantly until the custard is thick enough

  24. to coat the spoon, about 7 minutes.

  25. Pour the custard over the lady fingers and arrange a layer of sliced

  26. strawberries on top.

  27. Whip the cream, adding the remaining sugar and a dash of vanilla, then spread

  28. in over the fruit.

  29. Pare chocolate shavings onto the cream. Decorate with the whole strawberries

  30. and chill before serving.
