  1. 3/4 cup 120g / 4 1/5oz Brown sugar - packed

  2. 1 tablespoon 15ml Cornstarch

  3. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Ground cinnamon

  4. 1/8 teaspoon 0.6ml Ground nutmeg

  5. 1/8 teaspoon 0.6ml Ground cloves

  6. 1 tablespoon 15ml Orange peel - grated

  7. 1/2 cup 118ml Water

  8. 2 cups 292g / 10oz Fresh apples - chopped

  9. 1 cup 160g / 5.6oz Raisins

  10. 3/4 cup 109g / 3.8oz Walnuts - chopped

  11. 1 teaspoon 5ml Vanilla extract

  12. 1 Duncan Hines deluxe spice cake mix

  13. 3 Eggs (large)

  14. 1/3 cup 78ml Crisco oil

  15. 1 1/4 cups 296ml Water Whipped cream or ice cream

  1. Recipe Instructions Preheat oven to 350 deg. Grease 13x9x2 inch pan and line with waxed paper; grease paper. Combine brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, orange peel and 1/2 cup water in saucepan. Cool and stir over med. heat until mixture boils and thickens. Remove from heat; stir in apples, raisins, walnuts and vanilla ext. Turn into pan and spread evenly. Combine dry cake mix, eggs, oil and 1 1/4 cup water in large mixer bowl. Mix batter as directed on package. Turn into pan and spread evenly over apple mixture. Bake at 350 deg. for 40 to 45 minutes. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. At once, invert pan onto large platter. Remove pan and peel off paper. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
