  1. 1 cup warm Water

  2. 1 Tbl Shortening

  3. 1 Tbl Sugar

  4. 1 1/2 tsp Salt

  5. 1 pkg Yeast

  6. 1/2 cup warm Water

  7. 4 cups Flour

  1. Mix water, shortening, sugar and salt. Add yeast which has been dissolved in the water. Add flour 2 cups at a time. Form into ball with spoon right in bowl. Stir and work with a spoon every 10 minutes for five times. Turn onto bread board and divide into half. Let stand 10 minutes. Roll each piece 9 x 12“ and roll up like a jelly roll 12” long. Pinch edges and place on greased cookie sheet. Cut nearly through six or seven times. Brush with melted butter. Let rise until double in bulk (about 1 hour). Bake at 400 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Brush with better for a soft crust if desired.
