  2. 1/2 cup sugar

  3. 2 whole cloves

  4. 2 cinnamon sticks

  5. 1 orange

  6. 1 (750 ml) bottle red table wine (Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz, etc.)

  1. Mix water, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, wine, and the juice of the orange together in a heavy pot.

  2. Bring up the heat, but do not boil.

  3. Add the orange peel and simmer 15 minutes.
