  1. 1 /2 cup butter

  2. 3/4 cup dark brown sugar

  3. 3/4 cup flour

  4. 1 cup quick-cooking oats

  5. 1/2 tsp. salt

  1. C ream butter and brown sugar together; add flour, oats and salt. Cut together until crumbly. Press 1/2 of the mixture in an 8 x 8-inch greased pan.

  2. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.

  3. Filling:

  4. Pour applesauce into saucepan; boil rapidly for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Combine flour with brown sugar; add to hot applesauce. Cook for about 5 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat; add lemon rind and juice. Cool. Spread evenly over baked mixture. Add walnuts and nutmeg to remaining oats mixture; mix well.

  5. Sprinkle over applesauce mixture.

  6. Bake at 375 drgrees for 40 minutes.

  7. Cut when cool.
