  1. 1 1/4 tsp dry yeast

  2. 2 tbs warm water

  3. 1 egg

  4. 1/4 cup warm milk

  5. 2 tbs butter softened

  6. 2 tbs sugar

  7. 1 tsp lemon zest

  8. 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups flour Topping:

  9. 4 oz cream cheese softened

  10. 1 tbs sugar

  11. 1 lg apple peeled and sliced

  12. 2 tbs butter melted powdered sugar

  1. How to make it Disslove yeast in warm water Add egg, milk, butter, sugar, lemon peel, salt and 3/4 cup flour Beat till smooth Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft ( sticky dough ) Turn onto floured surface with floured hands knead smooth and elastic about 6 to 8 minutes Press into a greased 8 inch square pan, building up edges slightly For topping: combine cream cheese and sugar Gently spread over dough Arrange on apple slices, brush with butter Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled Bake in a 350F oven 30 to 40 minutes or top is golden and apples tender Note: may also use peaches, plums or apricots instead of apples Cool on rack Dust with powdered sugar Refrigerate leftovers
