  5. 2 c Flour

  6. 1/4 ts Baking soda

  7. 3/4 c Butter; softened*

  8. 3/4 c Sugar

  9. 1 tb Anise seed; crushed

  10. 1/4 ts Salt

  11. 1 Egg

  12. 1 c Sesame seed; toasted

  13. DESCRIPTION: Melt-in-your mouth balls topped with crunch sesame seeds

  14. are a delicious, not too sweet, accompaniament to coffee or tea.

  15. Preheat oven to 400. Combine flour and baking soda, set aside. Beat

  16. together butter, sugar, anise seed and salt until light and fluffy. Beat in

  17. egg. Stir in flour in increments, blending after each addition. Divide

  18. dough into qurters and place all but one in refrigerator.

  19. With floured hands, roll rounded teaspoons of dough into 1-inch balls.

  20. Roll in sesame seed, pressing seeds in slightly, to coat all sides. Arrange

  21. balls 1 1/2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Use the bottom of a

  22. glass to flatten balls to about 1/3 thickness. Repeat with remaining

  23. dough. Bake 6-9 minutes or until browned around edges. Cool on racks.

  24. These cookies are fragile, so store carefully in airtight container at
