  1. 3 cups 711ml Dates - cut up

  2. 3 tablespoons 45ml Cocoa

  3. 1 1/2 cups 297g / 10oz Shortening

  4. 4 cups 792g / 27oz Sugar

  5. 3 cups 711ml Boiling water

  6. 4 1/2 cups 281g / 9.9oz Flour

  7. 6 Eggs

  8. 1 cup 146g / 5.1oz Nuts - chopped

  9. 3 teaspoons 15ml Baking soda

  10. 2 cups 220g / 7.8oz Chocolate bits

  1. Recipe Instructions Mix dates and water and allow to cool. Combine 3 cups sugar, shortening, eggs, cocoa and flour. Add baking soda to date mixture and combine. Pour into 2 greased loaf pans and sprinkle with topping of 1 cup sugar, nuts and chocolate bits. Bake at 350F for 45-50 minutes. Slice and serve hot. Garnish with whipped cream.
