  1. BEEF ITALIANO

  2. 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef

  3. 1 egg, beaten

  4. 1 cup bread crumbs

  5. 1 cup water

  6. 1/2 cup finely chopped onions

  7. dash garlic powder

  8. salt and pepper to taste

  9. dash cayenne pepper

  10. 2 small cans herbed tomato sauce (approximately 6 1/2 ounces each)

  11. 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  12. Pinch of oregano

  13. Mix beef, egg, bread crumbs, water, onions, garlic powder, salt, pepper and cayenne together well in a mixing bowl. Then, roll or pat onto waxed paper into an even rectangle approx. 10 by 14 inches

  14. in size.

  15. Spread ground beef rectangle with one can tomato sauce, sprinkle

  16. with 1 1/2 cups Mozzarella cheese and pinch oregano over all.

  17. Reserve the remaining cheese and one can of sauce. Roll up in

  18. jelly roll fashion with help of waxed paper. Place roll seam-side

  19. down in a lightly greased baking dish and cover with remaining can

  20. 90 minutes at

  21. 400 degrees F. covered

  22. with foil for the majority of baking time. Remove foil for a crustier top for the last ten minutes. Sprinkle with remaining

  23. mozzarella cheese after removing from oven. Allow to rest for ten minutes before slicing.
