  1. 2 cups sugar

  2. 1/2 cup butter

  3. 1/2 cup cocoa

  4. 1/2 cup milk

  5. 3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats

  6. 1 teaspoon vanilla

  1. Mix sugar, butter, cocoa and milk in saucepan. Bring to a boil quickly. Reduce heat to medium and boil for 3 or 4 minutes, or until a little dropped into cold water forms a soft ball (234 degrees). Remove from heat. Stir in rolled oats and vanilla. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper. Let stand until hardened. (If you use 2⅔ (oz) squares of unsweetened baking chocolate, omit 2⅔ tablespoons butter.)
