  1. Vegetable oil for frying

  2. 1 large egg

  3. 1/4 cup milk

  4. 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  5. Salt

  6. 4 large sweet onions, sliced 1/2-inch thick, separated into rings

  1. In deep fryer or medium saucepan heat 3 inches vegetable oil to 375 degrees F.

  2. Meanwhile, beat egg and milk in small bowl. Combine flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt in medium bowl. Add onion rings to egg mixture several at a time and toss to coat well. Transfer to flour mixture and toss to coat.

  3. Add as many onion rings to hot oil as there is room for them in the oil without touching each other. Fry until golden on all sides, 2 to 3 minutes.

  4. Drain onion rings on paper towels and keep warm until all have been fried. Sprinkle with additional salt and serve.
