  1. 1/2 pound dried garbanzo beans or fava beans

  2. water -- to cover 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro

  3. 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

  4. 4 green onions -- chopped

  5. 2 cloves garlic -- minced

  6. 1 teaspoon cumin

  7. 1 pinch baking soda

  8. salt and pepper -- to taste water -- to moisten, optional olive oil -- for frying

  9. 2 inches over top of beans

  10. 8 to 10 hours. Pour off water; rinse under cold water and allow to drain. Place cooked beans in a food processor
