  1. 3 tablespoon butter

  2. 2 each onions, minced

  3. 8 cup water

  4. 2 cup split peas, dried

  5. 5 each garlic, cloves

  6. 1 each bay leaf

  7. 1/2 pound bacon, cut crosswise

  8. 2 each celery stalks, chopped

  9. 2 each carrots, diced

  10. 1/4 teaspoon marjoram

  11. 1 tablespoon salt

  12. 1/2 teaspoon pepper

  13. 8 to 10 hours. Before serving remove bay leaf and cloves.
