  1. 1 1/2 cups flour

  2. 1 cup brown sugar

  3. 1/4 cup lard or butter

  4. 1/2 cup dark or blackstrap molasses

  5. 1/2 cup hot water

  6. 1/2 tsp. baking soda Pastry

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9 inch pie pan with pastry. Make crumbs by combining the flour, sugar, and shortening. Dissolve the baking soda in the hot water and combine with molasses. Pour into the pastry lined pan, top with crumbs, and bake until firm.
