  1. 16 dried bay leaves

  2. 3 tablespoon(s) extra-virgin olive oil

  3. 3 tablespoon(s) lemon juice

  4. 1 tablespoon(s) chopped fresh thyme, preferably lemon thyme

  5. 1 teaspoon(s) garlic paste or 1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced

  6. 1 small red onion , cut into 16 pieces 1 large navel orange , cut into 16 wedges

  7. 16 cherry tomatoes

  8. 3/4 teaspoon(s) kosher salt

  9. 1/2 teaspoon(s) freshly ground black pepper

  10. 1 1/2 pound(s) fresh swordfish (1-inch thick) , cut into 16 pieces Spicy Garlic Broccoli Rabe

  1. In a large bowl, cover bay leaves with hot water; let soak 10 minutes to soften slightly; drain water. Add remaining ingredients to bowl, except swordfish, and toss to mix. Add swordfish; toss. Marinate at room temperature while preheating broiler.

  2. Drain marinade from bowl and reserve. Alternately thread an orange slice, swordfish, a bay leaf, red onion, and a cherry tomato onto four 12-inch metal skewers. Place on broiler pan rack; brush with reserved marinade.

  3. Broil 4 to 6 inches from heat source 8 minutes, turning skewers halfway through cooking and basting with reserved marinade, until swordfish is lightly browned and just barely opaque in middle, or to desired doneness. Serve over Spicy Garlic Broccoli Rabe .
