  1. 1 lb 454g / 16oz Lean ground beef (10% or less fat)

  2. 2 lbs 908g / 32oz Zucchini - shredded (medium)

  3. 1 Onion - finely chopped

  4. 2 tablespoons 30ml Minced dill

  5. 2 teaspoons 10ml Dry mustard

  6. 1 Jalapeño pepper - deveined and minced

  7. (wear gloves to prevent irritation)

  8. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Freshly-ground black pepper

  9. 3 teaspoons 15ml Whole-wheat pita breads - halved crosswise (small)

  10. 1 1/2 cups 355ml Torn romaine lettuce

  11. 2 Tomatoes - sliced

  1. Spray the broiler or grill rack with nonstick cooking spray; set aside. Preheat the broiler, or prepare the grill.

  2. In a large bowl, thoroughly combine the beef, zucchini, onion, dill, mustard, jalapeño (if using) and black pepper. Form into 6 patties.

  3. Arrange the patties on the rack; broil 5 inches from the heat 4 to 5 minutes on each side (medium to well-done). Place a hamburger in each pita and top with the lettuce and tomatoes.

  4. This recipe yields 6 servings.
