  1. 1 cup 62g / 2 1/5oz All-purpose flour

  2. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Salt

  3. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Baking soda

  4. 1/2 cup 80g / 2.8oz Packed brown sugar

  5. 3/4 cup 46g / 1.6oz Rolled oats - not instant

  6. 1/2 cup 99g / 3 1/2oz Margarine

  7. 24 Caramel candy

  8. 2 tablespoons 30ml Light cream

  9. 1/2 cup 55g / 1.9oz Semisweet chocolate

  1. Recipe Instructions 1. In mixing bowl, combine 1 cup flour, salt, soda, brown sugar and oats. Cut in margarine with pastry blender until fine particles are formed. Set aside 1 cup of this mixture.

  2. Press remaining mixture into bottom only of greased 8-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350F for 10 minutes.

  3. In top of double boiler combine caramels and cream. Cook over boiling water until caramels are melted. Blend in 2 tablespoons flour.

  4. Spread caramel mixture carefully over baked mixture. Sprinkle with chocolate pieces, then with reserved crumbs.

  5. Bake at 350F for 12-15 minutes until delicately browned. Cool for a few minutes before cutting into 24 bars.
