  5. 2 c Chopped dates

  6. 2 1/2 c Rolled oats

  7. 2 1/2 c Cake flour

  8. 1 c Brown sugar

  9. 1/2 c Cold water

  10. 1 c Butter

  11. Or butter substitute

  12. 1/2 c Hot water

  13. 1 ts Baking soda

  14. 1 c Sugar

  15. 1/4 ts Salt

  16. Combine dates, sugar, and cold water. Simmer until dates are soft,

  17. and sirup is thick. Cream butter and brown sugar. Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking soda and salt. Add rolled oats. Combine with creamed sugar

  18. and butter. Add hot water. Mix thoroughly. Divide dough into 2 portions.

  19. Turn onto lightly floured board. Roll each portion into an oblong 1/8 inch

  20. thick. Spread date filling on one sheet. Cover with second sheet. Cut in

  21. oblongs 1 by 3 inches. Place on lightly floured baking sheet. Bake in hot

  22. 15 minutes.
