  1. 8 oz ground pork

  2. 1 egg

  3. 1/4 small onion, diced

  4. 2 oz fish paste

  5. 1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder

  6. 1/2 tablespoon fish sauce

  7. 3 dashes white pepper

  8. Pinch of salt

  9. Oil, for frying

  10. Hoisin dipping sauce

  1. Gently knead all meatball ingredients together except oil.

  2. Smear a bit of oil on your hands and form into ping-pong-sized balls. Arrange on a baking sheet and chill for 30 - 60 minutes. Note: They can also be made a day in advance, cover with pastic before chilling.

  3. Make dipping sauce.

  4. . Heat 1/2-inch of oil in a large skillet. Add meatballs, but be careful about over-crowding - there should be space between them. Cook until browned on all sides.

  5. . Or bake for 15 minutes in a 375 degree oven.
