  1. Nothing is more traditional around Halloween than making Caramel Apples and this Caramel Apple Recipe is one that our kids really love to help make. Preparation : Insert wooden sticks 3/4 of the way into the stem end of each apple. Place apples on a cookie sheet covered with lightly greased aluminum foil. Combine caramels and water in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring often, until caramel melts and is smooth. Stir in the vanilla. Dip apples into melted caramel until evenly coated, spooning caramel over apples if necessary. Allow excess caramel to drip off. Scrape bottoms of apples and roll into bowls filled with different toppings and then place on a plate covered with wax paper. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or until ready to serve.
