  1. 1 cup butter or margarine, softened

  2. 2 cups packed brown sugar

  3. 2 tablespoons molasses

  4. 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  5. 1 1/2 cups wheat bran*

  6. 2 teaspoons baking powder

  7. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  8. 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  9. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  10. 2 eggs

  11. 2 cups buttermilk

  12. 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips or raisins

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Add molasses; mix well. Combine the dry ingredients. Combine eggs and buttermilk; add to creamed mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Stir in chocolate chips. Fill greased or paper-lined muffin cups three-fourths full. Bake at 375 degrees F for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks.
