  1. for Molasses Sponge Pudding Recipe

  2. 2 cups flour

  3. 2 teaspoons powdered ginger

  4. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  5. 1/2 cup vegetable shortening

  6. 1/2 cup molasses

  7. 1 egg

  8. 1 tablespoon breadcrumbs

  9. 3/4 cup milk

  10. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  11. For Sauce

  12. 1 teaspoon vegetable shortening

  13. 1 teaspoon cornstarch

  14. 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  15. 3 tablespoons molasses

  16. 1 cup hot water

  1. For pudding.

  2. Mix flour, breadcrumbs, soda and ginger together, then rub in vegetable shortening with finger tips.

  3. Beat egg, add milk, molasses, salt and stir into dry ingredients.

  4. Turn mixture into vegetable shorteninged mold, cover with greased paper and steam steadily for two hours.

  5. Turn out and serve with sauce.

  6. For sauce.

  7. Blend vegetable shortening and cornstarch together, add molasses, water, and lemon juice, and boil a few minutes.
