  1. Grilled Beef and Romaine Salad Thai-Style

  2. 1 head romaine lettuce, rinsed and torn for salad

  3. 1 cucumber, peeled

  4. 1 red onion, thinly sliced

  5. 11 firm radishes, trimmed

  6. 2 tomatoes, cored and sliced

  7. 1 bunch scallions, trimmed

  8. 16 fresh mint leaves

  9. 16 fresh basil leaves

  10. 1/2 cup cilantro leaves

  11. 1 cup fish sauce

  12. 1/2 teaspoon powdered hot red chilies

  13. 8 thin slices top sirloin

  14. salt fresh ground pepper 1/4 cup salad oil

  15. Prepare a charcoal or other grill for cooking the meat. This should

  16. be done before starting to prepare the ingrediences. Thinly slice

  17. the cucumbers and radishes. Cut scallions into 1-inch lengths.

  18. Prepare all the greens as indicated and combine in a salad bowl.

  19. Brush meat with oil.

  20. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Grill meat on both sides, about 2

  21. minutes to a side or longer, depending on the desired degree of

  22. doneness.

  23. Quickly, while the meat is still hot, cut the slices into 1/2 inch

  24. strips and add them to the greens. If there are any accumulated

  25. meat juices, add them to the sauce. Pour the sauce over all and toss. Serve immediately with hot rice or long loaves of bread.
