  1. 1 c Raisins

  2. 2 c Water

  3. 2 c Sugar

  4. 3/4c Shortening

  5. 1 ts Baking soda

  6. 2 ts Baking powder

  7. 4 c White flour

  8. 1/2ts Cinnamon

  9. 1 1/2ts Allspice

  10. 1 ts Cloves

  11. 1 c Mixed fruit

  12. 1 c Currants

  1. + In a pot, combine the first four ingredients.

  2. Bring to a boil & simmer for 1 minute.

  3. Set aside to cool.

  4. Sift together dry ingredients.

  5. Make a well in the centre & fold in the boiled ingredients.

  6. Mix well.

  7. Bake at 300F for 60 minutes.

  8. Test to see if done all the way through.

  9. If not, return to oven for a few more minutes.

  10. Cool on a wire rack.
