  2. 1 quart flour

  3. 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening

  4. 1 teaspoon salt

  5. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  6. 1 teaspoon baking power

  7. 1 egg

  8. 3/4 pint buttermilk

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar together, then rub in vegetable shortening with fingertips.

  2. Add well beaten egg and soda mixed with milk. Dough should be soft. A little more milk can be added if needed.

  3. Roll out lightly and handle as little as possible.

  4. Cut with biscuit cutter, lay on vegetable shorteninged tins, and bake at 425 degrees for ten minutes.

  5. Sufficient for thirty biscuits. .
